In case of cut lesions or complex trauma nerves may underwent to partial or complete lesions. In other conditions they might suffer from compression caused by adjacent structures for anatomical reasons (carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve compression).
Sure diagnosis of the place and amount of compression can be given by an electromyography.
In some cases, conservative treatment can be effective, while in others surgical one is mandatory. Today minimally invasive procedure allows a faster recovery.
In case of anatomical interruption of the nerve surgical repair, with or without graft, may be needed.
